The Control Technician is expected to bring knowledge of Electrical Controls and Automation to the Electricians and assist them in troubleshooting breakdowns on plant equipment. Work on plant automation upgrades. Be able to direct, monitor, and report on the electrical work being completed by the electrical staff.



  • Provide a shift report to the Maintenance Superintendent and Automation Control Manager.
  • Review work orders from production for proper content and priority.
  • Provide direction and training to the Electricians.
  • Complete projects with Automation and controls.
  • Work with Maintenance employee's assist and advise on breakdowns.
  • Give direction to the Electrical Leadman on accomplishing repairs, work orders, and PM's.



  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Engineering or Associates degree from an approved institution in an Electrical field plus two years' electrical experience in an industrial environment.
  • Five years in Electrical and Automation Control with PLC's, HMI's, AC & DC Drives, various measuring devices (such as scale's, linear transducers, and pressure transducers), Automation Networks (such as Ethernet, Controlnet, and Devicenet), and various input and output devices. Experience in Contrologix and/or Simatic PLCs preferred.



  • The ability to self-start and take charge of breakdowns with exceptional troubleshooting abilities that may include electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic issues. Provide training in troubleshooting to the maintenance group on problems found and how to locate and repair quickly. Make long term upgrade suggestions for equipment and operational issues. Experience with Computers and Microsoft products (windows and office). Proficient in all levels of ladder logic with the ability to analyze and provide temporary fixes to improve uptime.



 As determined by Automations Controls Manager, in times of need for shift coverage or fill-in support.  



Must be able to move about facility and spend time in mill environment.  Must be able, from time to time, lift 40 lbs.



Circumstances may require meetings throughout the facility, including the mill and offsite. Some travel may be required. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
