Director of Continuous Improvement

The Director of Continuous Improvement will be responsible for overseeing and directing cross functional teams in the implementation of Operational Best Practices and Lean Manufacturing Tools throughout Stupp Corporation's Operations. These tools will be used to improve efficiency, reduce costs, increase first-pass quality, enhance employee engagement and ownership and promote a safe work environment. The Director of Continuous Improvement will be responsible for building employee engagement and ownership of Lean Manufacturing Concepts and for standardizing such Concepts throughout the Organization.

The Director of Continuous Improvement will work extensively with Plant Managers and other Department Heads to ensure that the solutions being implemented by this group closely support the on-going Continuous Improvement goals set forth by the Company.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversee and Manage all aspects of Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing at Stupp Corporation

o    Responsible for Directing the Lean Manufacturing Group in work which optimizes company performance. Among other duties, examples of the responsibilities of the Lean Manufacturing Manager may include        some or all of the following:

  •   Develops and Leads Lean Manufacturing Initiatives throughout the organization.
  •   Works with Plant Managers to Oversee the Design, Installation and Upkeep of Visual Management Tools throughout the Manufacturing Facilities.
  •   Works with Plant Managers and Natural Work Teams to Develop and Maintain Standard Operating Procedures to Reduce Process Variation and Enhance First-Pass Quality.
  •   Works with Plant Managers, Process and Project Engineering Manager and Natural Work Teams to develop lean solutions to address defects in the manufacturing process.
  •   Works with Plant Managers, Process and Project Engineering Manager and Natural Work Teams to implement SMED (Single Minute Exchange of Die) concepts to reduce Changeover / Tuneout time.
  •   Works with Plant Managers, Reliability Engineering Manager, Process and Project Engineering Manager to help Natural Work Teams Identify P2 and P3 Maintenance Work in Operating Areas.
  •   Works with Plant Managers, Sr. Director of  Maintenance  and Reliability to Identify new and existing Preventative Maintenance Activities which can be assumed by Natural Work Teams in the adoption of    Autonomous Maintenance Activities.
  •   Manages the implementation of Kaizen Events to create quick and sustainable Operating Improvements.
  •   From time-to-time, Works Closely with Outside Resources (such as Consultants or Outside Instructors) to enhance the organization's understanding and command of Lean Manufacturing Best Practices.
  •   In addition to all of the above, Routinely Performs Detailed Analysis of Current Practices and Identifies key sources of waste and inefficiency. Selects the most appropriate Lean Manufacturing Tool(s) to    address these conditions and directs the Group's members in its (their) implementation.
  •   Periodically Attends Continuing Education to enhance knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Best Practices and Enhance Leadership Skills.
  •   Performs other duties as directed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
         Bachelor's Degree from an Accredited College or University. Strong Preference for focus in engineering.

         Strong Preference for Masters Degree (Engineering or Business Administration) from an Accredited College or University.

         Minimum 7 Years Experience in Industrial Setting serving in an Engineering or Management Role.

         Possesses Significant, Documented Prior Experience and Success in Manufacturing application of Lean Manufacturing Tools and Processes.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to move about facility and spend time in mill environment.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Circumstances may require meetings throughout the facility, including the mill and offsite. Some travel may be required. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
