EHS Technician

JOB SUMMARY:

The Environmental Health and Safety Technician coordinates daily safety and environmental initiatives to ensure a positive and safe work environment. Areas of specialty for this position will focus on incident response and investigation, safety inspections, and environmental compliance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Support of safety, training, and environmental management system at Stupp corporation
• Perform routine inspections required maintain compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations
• Assists with Environmental Compliance requirements such as Spill Control Plan, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan, Non-Hazardous Waste disposal and recordkeeping
• Provide and/or facilitate EHS training as needed.
• Provide immediate response to incidents- including first aid. Assist with incident investigations and suggest corrective actions to mitigate.
• Perform safety and housekeeping audits and hazard assessments of work areas/tasks, identify potential problems and suggest remedies.
• Support safety, environmental, and training related projects and compliance initiatives, as assigned.
• Ability to shift work- nights, weekends, or holidays as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Preference for recognized professional training or certificate in safety discipline.
• Relevant experience in industrial safety, training, or emergency response related functions

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Ability to manage time constraints, follow through on completion of projects, and meet deadlines.
• Must demonstrate some technical competencies and aptitude in understanding EH&S issues and formulating solutions to EH&S issues.
• Preferred candidate should have some demonstrated focus on EH&S as well as be able to perform word processing and work in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Must be able to work with limited supervision
• Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills
• Has growth potential in the organization       

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds,
• Ability to work in a hot, humid environment and outside in all weather.
• Able to traverse to and from all areas of plant. This position requires frequent traversing areas, both raised and below grade, accessed by ladders, steep stairs, and catwalks, sitting; occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or bending. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Fieldwork comprises 80% of this position within and outside and unheated or non-air conditioned manufacturing facility. Circumstances may require meetings throughout the facility, including the mill and offsite. Some travel may be required. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
