Junior Project Engineer

The Junior Project Engineer will be responsible for overseeing and managing small scale capital expenditures.  Capital expenditures will support the ongoing performance of Stupp Corporation's two Steel Line Pipe Manufacturing Facilities, office complexes and surrounding 125-acre campus.  The individual will be able to produce conceptual designs backed by engineering theory and calculations. Using the conceptual design, the Junior Project Engineer will work closely with vendors and contractors to produce final drawings and ultimately a final product - including installation and commissioning.  Upon commissioning, the project engineer will also be involved in monitoring the subsequent performance of the project to document Return on Investment calculations for Senior Management. The individual will be resourceful and determine if an engineered solution already exists to solve a problem.

The Junior Project Engineer will work extensively with the Mill Engineers, Technical Managers, Maintenance Manager, Reliability Engineer, Production Managers and the Enterprise Project Management Office to ensure that the solutions being implemented support the on-going Continuous Improvement goals set forth by the Company. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee and Manage all aspects of Projects
    • Responsible for providing sound engineered solutions and manage projects with the in-house Project Management Methodology.
      • Employs the use of best-in-class practices for effective project management and execution.  Utilizes structured approach to project management such as through use of Stage-Gate methodology to ensure appropriate approvals, etc. have been met while also driving the speed of project execution.
      • Determine what the problem is and what the end goal needs to be. Through effective communication with Maintenance, Production and the Engineering team, provide solution options.
      • Manage outside vendors, engineering firms and contractors - keeping them on task, on schedule, and on budget.
      • Be diligent and help support efforts to keep the drawing system up to date.
      • Works with Plant Managers, Maintenance, Quality and other Members of the Continuous Improvement Group to augment Standard Operating Procedures and Preventative Maintenance Plans for new and existing equipment.
      • Work closely with other team members including Process Engineer and Technical Manager to ensure common goals are being met.
      • Manage the teams providing input inclusive of Production, Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, EHS, Legal, HR and IT.
      • Performs other duties as directed.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an Accredited College or University. 
  • Strong preference for Mechanical or Electrical Engineer.
  • 1-3 years' experience in industrial setting serving in an Engineering role.
  • Steel or pipe mill experience preferred but not required.
  • PMP certified a plus.

 

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Has the ability to lead Projects.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills.
  • Works well in team-based environments.
  • Responds well to constructive criticism and engages freely in the same.
  • Comfortable taking initiative to ensure success of the Project.
  • Must be comfortable managing multiple projects concurrently.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to move about facility and spend time in mill environment.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The majority of Projects will require that time be spent in the mill taking measurements, making observation and supervising project installations. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
