Reliability Engineer

The Reliability Engineer will be responsible for implementing methods to improve reliability of plant equipment through design, processes, and systems.  Key duties will involve obtaining and analyzing data, preparing calculations, diagrams, charts, reports, etc. to investigate asset reliability and make recommendations for solutions/improvements.  Solutions will be analyzed to consider cost, quality, and expedience. . This person will use and interpret predictive technologies to detect potential failures and monitor the operational capability of the equipment.  They will also review preventive maintenance techniques to optimize machine condition and efficiency. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures compliance with process for assigned areas of reliability program. 
  • Receives and analyses data from condition monitoring systems to develop action plans for preventive maintenance and recommends corrective actions.
  • Develops engineering solutions to repetitive failures and other problems that adversely affect plant operation using established engineering techniques, principles, and statistical analysis.
  • Works closely with Operations and Maintenance to performs asset analysis including SFMEA, 5 Whys, RCM, and other reliability techniques.
  • Provides technical support for maintenance troubleshooting activities.
  • Works closely with Maintenance team to optimize preventative and predictive maintenance efforts in order to minimize cost of repairs, unscheduled equipment downtime and to optimize equipment availability.
  • Works with Process and Project Engineering team to ensure that assets are put into operational status in proper condition during installation and/or refurbishing and that data entered into the asset's system is current and accurate; works with Maintenance to develop the asset's maintenance program.
  • Establishes working criteria for outside vendors and consultants as required.
  • Collaborates with staff and management at all levels throughout Company to apply best practices; interacts with Consultants and other outside resources as necessary to support and improve reliability programs and initiatives.
  • Assists in setting required training and standards.
  • Supports Microsoft Dynamics AX ERP/CMMS Program as related to maintenance work order scheduling and processing for projects and preventative and emergency maintenance.
  • Performs Other Duties as Needed.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Technical qualification for Mechanical, Electrical, or Process related engineering
  • 0-4 years' experience in reliability or proactive maintenance/engineering roles.
  • Experience in a heavy manufacturing environment
  • Experience using maintenance management or asset management software
  • Experience with vibration & oil analysis, lubrication systems, or thermography is a plus

 

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrates strong command of statistics, including probabilities and statistical process control
  • Possesses working knowledge of maintenance activities, to include vibration analysis, lubrication, etc.
  • Has strong working knowledge of mechanical or electrical system testing
  • Demonstrates understanding of asset management systems
  • Demonstrates problem solving ability
  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates planning and organizational skills, with ability to develop and execute plan and achieve strategic goals
  • Has knowledge of continuous improvement systems or processes; practical hands-on experience a plus
  • Demonstrates computer proficiency; ability to adapt to new programs quickly
  • Has knowledge, experience, and demonstrated proficiency in information technology, database structures, and program management
  • CMRP or MLT/MLA is a plus

                              

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to move about facility and spend time in mill environment.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Circumstances may require meetings throughout the facility, including the mill and off site.  Some travel may be required. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
